Work on the L Tower’s east side is proceeding as windows are being installed where the former crane support struts connected to the building.

Work on the northwest plaza continues to proceed. Designed by Claude Cormier and Associates and featuring a major new public art installation by Harley Valentine, it will be a signature gateway to the neighbourhood when it opens later this year.

Ongoing clean up at street level will continue in preparation for sidewalk work over summer.  Check back here at ltowerconstructioninfo.com for regular updates.

Work on the L tower is now focussed on completing installation the permanent maintenance platform at the top of the tower and installing glazing where the support struts for the crane connected to the east side of the tower. As well there will be ongoing clean up at street level in preparation for streetscaping work to begin later this summer.  Check back here at ltowerconstructioninfo.com for regular updates.

Work on the L tower is now focussed on installing windows where the support struts for the crane connected to the tower and at street level; as well as cleaning up the street level in preparation for streetscaping work to begin.  Check back here at ltowerconstructioninfo.com for regular updates.

The L tower crane was successfully removed on May 18th. This effort required many hors of skilled and challenging work to accomplish by the dedicated construction team. The final phases of remaining exterior work will now be the focus of work at the L Tower. We will post a new update on June 1.

Update May 16, 2016

Vehicular Road Closure RESCHEDULED  Tuesday May 17 & Wednesday, May 18 2016 on The Esplanade from Yonge Street to Scott Street, with a possible extension to Thursday May 19 if required. 

The mobile crane company had an emergency today and were not able to deliver the crane to the site. Work will now commence on Tuesday, May 17. Please check back for updates.

The Esplanade will be closed to vehicles from Yonge Street to Scott Street between 7 AM and 7 PM as needed on May 17 & 18 with a possible extension to Thursday May 19 if required.

L Tower crane removal update May 6 2016

L Tower construction information 8 The Esplanade – L Tower  Update May 6, 2016

The tower crane is coming down in sections this week. This work will continue through the week. The Esplanade remains open to eastbound traffic there may be temporary interruptions to vehicular traffic for safety reasons when crane sections are lowered to the curb. Pedestrian access to Yonge Street is unaffected, however when sections are being lowered to the sidewalk, pedestrians may be directed to walk on the south side of the street. 

When the crane removal reaches the 17th floor, a mobile crane will be required to take the remaining sections down.

To permit the mobile crane to be delivered, installed and removed, a vehicular road closure from Scott Street to Yonge Street along The Esplanade will take place from May 16th through May 18th. 

We will post more specific details of the road closure next week.

L Tower construction information 8 The Esplanade – L Tower  Update May 2.

The tower crane is coming down in sections this week. This work will continue through the week. The Esplanade remains open to eastbound traffic with only minor temporary interruptions for safety reasons. Pedestrian access to Yonge Street is unaffected, however when sections are being lowered to the sidewalk, pedestrians are directed to walk on the south side of the street. 

When the crane removal reaches the 17th floor, a mobile crane will be required to take the remaining sections down. To permit the mobile crane to be delivered, installed and removed, a vehicular road closure from Scott Street to Yonge Street along The Esplanade will be required. Construction managers are meeting with City of Toronto staff this week to confirm those dates. Deputy Mayor McConnell’s office is being kept informed.

L Tower construction information 8 The Esplanade – L Tower  Update April 29/16

The derrick has been successfully installed at the top of the L Tower. The north sidewalk along The Esplanade has been taped for safety reasons in preparation for taking down the tower crane.  We expect that there will be a vehicular road closure between Scott Street and Yonge Street in the latter part of next week in order to facilitate the removal of the tower crane.

The exterior tower crane will begin being removed this coming week. As noted above we expect there will be a vehicular road closure between Scott Street and Yonge Street to enable a mobile crane to put on site and to ensure a safe removal of the tower crane.  The mobile crane will be used to lift and remove sections of the tower crane.
