Drilling and “breaking” for Backstage

These pictures show site work today–1/9/12–at 1 The Esplanade, preparing the way for the Backstage Condominium from Castlepoint, Cityzen and Fernbrook Homes. The site will also house the underground parking for the adjacent L Tower. The work this week is focused on drilling caissons and “breaking” parts of the railway bridge structure that will be replaced by the Backstage podium. During construction work there are also some temporary holds on eastbound traffic but with every effort made to minimize delays.

  • GFL Excavating will be drilling spoils most of the day: Dump trucks will be in and out at The Esplanade gate, just west of Scott Street.
    • There will be a significant impact on eastbound vehicular traffic.
    • There will be a significant impact on eastbound and westbound pedestrian traffic.

Tuesday, August 9

  • There will be a 72M concrete pour starting at 1 pm, which is not expected to beyond 7:00 pm

Wednesday, August 3

  • There will be a 72M concrete pour which is not expected to beyond 7:00 pm
  • Several deliveries to site are scheduled throughout the day. These should have little or no impact on traffic.

1 The Esplanade – L Tower Parking + Backstage 

  • Sub-contractor, Deep Foundation will be drilling caissons.
  • Concrete truck deliveries are scheduled throughout the day.
  • There will be a large steel delivery: Deep Foundation, has scheduled an oversized delivery of steel piles 85 feet long. The load will come to The Esplanade gate.
    • Because it is an oversized load the truck delivering it will leave Deep Foundation’s yard at approximately 9:00 am under police escort and make its way to the site via Jarvis St, west across The Esplanade toward Yonge Street.
    • Unfortunately, during delivery there will be a significant impact on vehicular and pedestrian traffic in the vicinity of 1 The Esplanade. This is expected to occur between approximately 10 am and 11 am.

Thursday, August 4
