About this site
This site provides updates for the local residential and business community in the St. Lawrence Market neighbourhood regarding the construction of the L Tower Condominium.
The L Tower is a project of Ferncastle (Front St.) Inc. which brings together the development companies: Castlepoint Realty Partners, Cityzen Development Group, and Fernbrook Homes.
This site is maintained and updated by EN Consulting on behalf of Ferncastle.
You have applied for a street permit to remove the crane for next weekend. Surely this ought to be HERE on THIS site – it is quite a major event. We should not have to find out about it from UrbanToronto!
Mr. Gaston: thanks for your comment. We only post corroborated information as work directly with the construction managers. There were and are no plans to take down the tower crane yet. There were plans (which we posted) to take down the hoist (the external elevator) this past weekend. However, those plans, as we also posted, were changed. It is now planned to have a road closure and hoist removal on July 26 and 27. http://www.urbantoronto.ca is one of our favourite sites but they are not charged with the construction information file and with respect we advise you check here for accurate information.
I got the information from the City’s Permit Application site. Seemed (and seems) pretty reliable to me but then you postponed the plans.
Indeed as we explained on this site the plans had to be postponed due to complications from a flood at the L Tower. Once again the hoist removal has had to be postponed. Permit applications of course have to be applied for in advance. https://ltowerconstructioninfo.com/2014/07/25/l-tower-hoist-removal-rescheduled-to-august/
We love http://urbantoronto.ca but with respect it is not the official construction information site, and we cannot and do not attest to the reliability of information posted there about construction scheduling for Backstage and the L Tower.
You are clearly not very well informed – yesterday you told me the removal was scheduled for August but I just looked out of my window and the hoist / elevator is being taken down right now.
We were advised by Dominus Construction’s management team that the hoist removal would not occur this weekend. We regret this information was inaccurate. We have advised the development partners who engage us and Dominus. Obviously we are deeply concerned to have been supplied with what we assume was inadvertently incorrect information. We regret any confusion.
UPDATE & CORRECTION: Please note that we were advised by the Construction Managers, as we posted and circulated, that the full hoist (external) removal and accompanying road closure was to be rescheduled (again) to early August. This information remains accurate. However, we are aware that on Saturday unexpected complications in a critical upper floor window installation unexpectedly required the removal of the upper two sections of the hoist (external elevator).
We apologize that neither we nor senior management at Dominus were advised of this last minute alteration to the work schedule. So we were not able to provide advance notice of this.

If occupants are moving in…why is the crane still attached?
The crane continues to be needed to lift remaining glazing and top-of-building material. It is scheduled to come down in the first quarter of 2015. We’ll post updates here as they become available.
Excellent question: it has still been required for some specialized work. As well high winds and extreme cold mitigate against taking it down in the midst of winter.
