Ongoing work on the exterior at Backstage was slowed this past week by less than ideal weather conditions. However, progress has been made on the west side of the tower at roof level.

Interior work progress on finishing the amenity areas. Tile work on the steam rooms has been completed. This coming week crews will be working to install the the steam equipment.  The party rooms are nearing completion and the amenity kitchen has been installed. Crews will  be installing counters and flooring in the coming days. 

There are a handful of unsold suites which crews will be getting ready for inspections this week and next.

Backstage Construction Update – October 17 – 30, 2016

In the past two weeks caulking work on the north face of the Backstage podium has been getting completed. 

Several days of strong winds slowed installation of the porcelain tiles the east and west sides of the tower but work continues to progress. 

Interior work in the amenity areas is continuing to progress. Wood paneling on the 5th floor is getting stained and the kitchen cabinets have arrived for the party room. In the past two weeks floor finishes have been completed in the 5th floor party room.  The 7th floor Steam room tiles have been installed and installation of the 6thfloor wall panels got underway last week.

2 more unoccupied unites were approved for occupancy by City inspectors this past week.  The remaining unsold suites are getting being finished for occupancy inspections in the coming weeks.

Sony Plaza update October 24 2016

L Tower  8 The Esplanade – Sony Plaza Update

In the past two weeks significant progress has been made on the northwest plaza of the Sony Centre.

As recently as October 7, crews were laying paving stones to form the “floor” of the plaza. Just this weekend the new public art piece Triptych Dream Ballet by Toronto artist Harley Valentine was installed on the site. 

The public “reveal” of Triptych Dream Ballet is coming soon. This exciting new addition of public art and public realm space will be serve as new landmark and gateway to the St. Lawrence Market neighbourhood.

Backstage Construction Update – October 10 – 16, 2016

On the east face of the tower porcelain tiles installers were up to the 13th floor last week and will be pressing on up the building this week.  The west face installation is continuing at the top of the building. 

The limestone work on the podium is substantially complete.

The pool on the podium deck is being worked on this week.  Crews are preparing for waterproofing in the next few weeks: testing the surface prior to tile work beginning. Landscapers will begin some preparatory work on the podium deck this week.

Interior amenity work continues.  Finished panels have been installed on the 5th floor and some of the millwork is complete.  All the gym equipment has arrived and is being installed.

There are few suites left to complete.  Crews are working to finishing them and have them ready to hand over by the end of October.

L Tower autumn update – October 2016

We check in at the L Tower now that fall is here. While the building is nearly fully occupied some work remains to be done.

At the top of the building the derrick (temporary crane) will remain in place until May 2017. The derrick is going to be used to install the permanent Building Maintenance Unit (BMU) in May.

Work is scheduled to be underway to install paving and complete the remaining unfinished sidewalk area on the south side of the L Tower and the Sony Centre. Weather permitting this work should be completed within the next 4 weeks. 

Finally, work is continuing on the northwest plaza of the Sony Centre. The plaza is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year. We will have an update on the plaza later this fall.

Backstage Construction Update – October 3 – 9, 2016

This is a construction update for Backstage Condominium, 1 The Esplanade, October 3 – 9, 2016

Construction work on the interior of Backstage has made great progress over the past 2 weeks.  40 unoccupied suites were approved for occupancy by the building inspector. The fourth floor parking level was also inspected and approved. Within the next two weeks residents will be able to use this parking level after remaining clean-up items are addressed.

The 7th floor gym and yoga equipment arrived last Friday and is being set up this coming week. Walls and flooring installation continues on in the 7th floor amenity spaces.  Work is also continuing on the 5th and 6th floor amenity spaces and hallways.

The north face of the podium along The Esplanade is now clear of scaffolding. The mast climber has been removed giving a sense of how the building will look once the sidewalk and landscaping is completed in the coming months.

The porcelain tiling on the west face of the tower is complete up to 35th floor. Installation of the porcelain tiles is underway on the east side of the tower and has been completed to the 9th floor. Tile installation is continuing this week. Work also continues on the podium deck. We will have an update on the pool and and outdoor amenity area next week.
