Construction at Backstage this week remains focussed on exterior facades and continuing work on the remaining interior finishes. Work is also progressing on the outdoor amenity space on the podium deck, with piping for the outdoor swimming pool soon to be installed.

On the west side of the tower porcelain tile was completed to 20^th floor last week and will be heading up further into the “20s” this week. On the east side of the tower, support brackets for the porcelain tile cladding were completed last week to the 22^nd floor. This week crews continue with bracket installation on the east tower in advance of tile installation.

Work on the podium’s limestone cladding progresses on the east side of the building, facing the entrance to the “Green P” parking lot. At grade, facing The Esplanade, work will soon resume to remove the remaining shoring and replace it with waterproofing and permanent fill.

Inside the building crews continue to finish unoccupied suites and the very few unsold suites that remain. Tiling, drywall and painting continue in the interior amenity areas on Levels 7, 6 and 5.

30 days or more of 30 degree heat has taken a toll on the pace of construction at Backstage. Even so work continues on the exterior at a steady pace. On the west side of the tower porcelain tile was completed to 15^th floor last week and will be heading up to the “20s” this week. On the east side of the tower, support brackets for the porcelain tile cladding were completed last week to the 17^th floor. This week crews aim to complete bracket installation will into the “20s.” 

Work on the podium’s limestone cladding sees steady progress with the emphasis on the east facing wall of the podium.

Inside the building, crews have completed more suites and construction management is continuing to complete inspections prior to the next round of suite occupancy. Tiling, drywall and painting are continuing this week in the interior amenity areas on Levels 7, 6 and 5.

Work is continuing this week along the northeast wall of the podium beside the Green P entrance laneway. There has been some excavation in progress along the front of the building which continues this week: crews are removing some steel supports which were installed during the construction of the foundation walls.  As these are removed, crews will re-waterproof the foundation walls and then back fill them. 

On the west side of the tower crews installing the porcelain tile have reached the 13th floor and this work continues with steady progress expected this week. On the east side of the tower, crews are continuing to install supports and insulation.  They have also reached the 13th floor and will progress to higher floors this week. As well, curtainwall replacement is continuing on the 5^th and 6^th floors at the southeast corner of the tower to replace sections damaged by last winter’s fire.

Interior work continues in amenity areas. Tiling is almost complete in both change rooms on 7th floor, while on the 5th floor taping and sanding is almost complete. Remaining unoccupied suites are continuing to be finished.  Construction management is preparing for the next round of occupancy at the end of August.  Suite inspections continue on various floors.
