Update Backstage Crane Removal May 26 – 28, 2015

Mobile crane equipment on The Esplanade preparing to set up for the Backstage tower crane removal, May 26.
During the crane removal work period May 26 – 28 the following impacts will occur:
- Large tractor trailers may arrive as early 5:00 am due per Toronto Police Service restrictions on large loads travelling downtown during rush hour traffic.
- Work may start early and continue late as may be required to ensure the safe take down of the Backstage tower crane. Large crane work is exempt from City of Toronto Construction Noise Hours. ** (see below).
- When safety permits, every effort will be made to permit pedestrian access to Yonge Street. However it is prudent to plan on having to use Front Street East during some periods of the crane removal work.
- Paid Duty Officers will be on-site during the work.
- VEHICULAR ROAD CLOSURE: May 26, 27 & 28 the tower crane will be taken down from Backstage, The Esplanade will be closed to traffic from Yonge to the Novotel (east of Scott) from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm.
- Access to the St. Lawrence Garage west of Scott Street will be closed.
- There will be no vehicle access to The Esplanade from Scott Street (from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm).

** TORONTO MUNICIPAL CODE NOISE § 591-2.1 [Excerpt]
Construction. [Added 2007-12-13 by By-law No. 1400-2007]
(1) No person shall emit or cause or permit the emission of sound resulting from any operation of construction equipment or any construction, if it is clearly audible at a point of reception:
(a) In a quiet zone or residential area within the prohibited period of 7:00 p.m. one day to 7:00 a.m. the next day, 9:00 a.m. on Saturdays, and all day Sunday and statutory holidays; or
(b) In any other area within the prohibited period of all day Sunday and statutory holidays.
(2) Subsection B(1 a, b) does not apply to the continuous pouring of concrete, large crane work, necessary municipal work and emergency work that cannot be performed during regular business hours.
