This is the current construction schedule for 1 The Esplanade, Backstage condominium – for May 30 – June 5, 2015. 

NOTE: Cable Control Systems (for Rogers) and Distinct Tech (for Beanfeild) will be digging for incoming services to Backstage on June 2 – 4. The cable work will temporarily disrupt traffic along The Esplanade. Cable Control Systems and Distinct Tech will be applying for any relevant permits.

Saturday, May 30

  • Interior suite work: drywall and finishing.
  • Exterior preparation work for cable laying next week with a mini excavator and breaker hammer, starting at 9:00 am.

Monday, June 1 

  • Interior suite finishing all day.
  • Toro railing delivery from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm.
  • Drywall delivery from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

Tuesday, June 2

  • Cable Control Systems for Rogers and Distinct Tech for Beanfeild will be digging for incoming services for Backstage.
  • NOTE: The cable work will disrupt traffic along The Esplanade. Cable Control Systems and Distinct Tech will be applying for any relevant permits.

    • All rebar deliveries are now complete.
    • Paid Duty Police Officer may be on-site when required and when available to assist with traffic control, Monday to Friday, from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm daily. 
    • Concrete pour schedules and times are subject to weather conditions.
    • There may be some short-term impacts on traffic flow as concrete or delivery trucks are moved into position.
    • Concrete trucks must keep their engines running during the pouring process.

  • REMINDER: The L Tower crane remains in place to facilitate the lift and placement of the rooftop window washing crane assembly and will remain up through the balance of June. We will posting information in advance when a take-down and removal date is confirmed.

Update Backstage Crane Removal May 26 – 28, 2015

During the crane removal work period May 26 – 28 the following impacts will occur:

  • Large tractor trailers may arrive as early 5:00 am due per Toronto Police Service restrictions on large loads travelling downtown during rush hour traffic.  
  • Work may start early and continue late as may be required to ensure the safe take down of the Backstage tower crane. Large crane work is exempt from City of Toronto Construction Noise Hours. ** (see below). 
  • When safety permits, every effort will be made to permit pedestrian access to Yonge Street. However it is prudent to plan on having to use Front Street East during some periods of the crane removal work. 
  • Paid Duty Officers will be on-site during the work.

  • VEHICULAR ROAD CLOSURE: May 26, 27 & 28 the tower crane will be taken down from Backstage, The Esplanade will be closed to traffic from Yonge to the Novotel (east of Scott) from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm. 
  • Access to the St. Lawrence Garage west of Scott Street will be closed. 
  • There will be no vehicle access to The Esplanade from Scott Street (from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm).

** TORONTO MUNICIPAL CODE  NOISE § 591-2.1 [Excerpt]

Construction. [Added 2007-12-13 by By-law No. 1400-2007]

(1) No person shall emit or cause or permit the emission of sound resulting from any operation of construction equipment or any construction, if it is clearly audible at a point of reception:

(a) In a quiet zone or residential area within the prohibited period of 7:00 p.m. one day to 7:00 a.m. the next day, 9:00 a.m. on Saturdays, and all day Sunday and statutory holidays; or

(b) In any other area within the prohibited period of all day Sunday and statutory holidays.

(2) Subsection B(1 a, b) does not apply to the continuous pouring of concrete, large crane work, necessary municipal work and emergency work that cannot be performed during regular business hours.

NOTICE: May 26, 27 & 28 the tower crane will be taken down from Backstage, The Esplanade will be closed to traffic from Yonge to the Novotel (east of Scott) from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm. There will be no access to Scott Street from The Esplanade. Pedestrian access to Yonge Street will be closed while the crane is taken down. 5 Paid Duty Police Officers will be on site to direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic. If and when safety permits, every effort will be made to permit pedestrian access to Yonge Street. However it is prudent to plan on having to use Front Street East during the crane removal work.
