Update on this past weekend’s L Tower work & apology

Please note that we were advised by the Construction Managers, as we posted and circulated, that the full hoist (external) removal and accompanying road closure was to be rescheduled (again) to early August. This information remains accurate. 

However, we are aware that on Saturday, July 26, unexpected complications in a critical upper floor window installation unexpectedly required the removal of the upper two sections of the hoist (external elevator). 
We apologize that we were not advised of this last minute alteration to the work schedule. So we were not able to provide the usual advance notice of this work.
As this constituted “Large Crane Work” it is exempted from the City of Toronto’s Construction Noise By-Law standard work hours. 
We are working with our clients and the Construction Management Team to ensure such an inadvertent communication failure does not occur again and we apologize for any inadvertent confusion, inconvenience or disturbance this work may have caused.

  • A Paid Duty Police Officer is on-site daily Monday to Friday, from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm daily to assist with traffic control.

  • There will be deliveries to the hoist throughout the day from 9:00 am.

Monday, July 28

Backstage reaches 10th storey — Construction Schedule – July 26 – August 1

Backstage has reached it’s 10th floor wall and concrete pouring will commence for the  11th floor slab on July 29.

  • A  10th floor wall and column concrete pour, by subcontractor Italform (35 metres of concrete), scheduled to run from 12:30 pm.

 Tuesday, July 29

  • Rebar delivery from 7:00 am.
  •  11th Floor slab concrete pour #1, by subcontractor Italform, scheduled to begin at 1o:00 am.
  • An after-slab concrete pour for 9th floor walls and columns, 35 metres of concrete, to begin following the main slab pour.
  • Concrete Finishing until to 10:00 pm.

  • Concrete Finishing until to 10:00 pm.

NOTES:

      • A Paid Duty Police Officer is on-site daily Monday to Friday, from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm daily to assist with traffic control.

      • There may be some short-term impacts on traffic flow as concrete trucks are moved into position.
      • Concrete trucks must keep their engines running during the pouring process.

L Tower Hoist Removal Rescheduled to August

L Tower Hoist Removal Rescheduled to August 9 & 10, 2014

The L Tower Hoist (external elevator) was to be removed this month, July, 2014, over a full weekend. Due to complications with some elements of construction staging, the hoist removal has been postponed to early August. Most likely the weekend of August 9 and 10. Updates will be provided to confirm the dates and timing of this work.

What is going to happen?

The hoist (external elevator) will be taken down in stages using the Large Tower Crane to street level. 

The Road Closure of The Esplanade between Yonge Street and Scott Street will be in effect from 12:01 am Saturday through Midnight on Sunday, to permit the safe lowering of each hoist section. 

Pedestrian access will be maintained except when sections of the hoist are being lowered by the crane.

Traffic control staff will be on hand as well as two (2) Paid Duty Officers of the Toronto Police Service

The road closure permit will be posted on site. Reminder notices will be delivered to the two neighbouring condominiums. Reminder email and social media notices will be posted prior to the weekend and any updates will also posted on this website.

Cancelled – Road closure for L Tower Hoist removal July 19 and 20

THIS WORK HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED TO JULY 26 & 27.

The L Tower Hoist (external elevator pictured in the photo below) WAS to be removed over the weekend of  Saturday, July 19 and Sunday, July 20, 2014 and will now be removed the following weekend. The change is due to ongoing remedial work in the wake of last weekend’s flood at the L Tower.

Flood at the L Tower – late night and morning work July 11 – 12

Friday July 11 – Saturday July 12, 2014



On Friday July 11 a fire alarm set off at the L Tower at approximately 8:30 pm.


When the staff came to investigate they discovered a flood affecting multiple floors.


Crews went into action immediately to  successfully address this serious and potentially dangerous situation.


In order to do so, the hoist (external elevator) was necessarily in operation all night. This morning, July 12, necessary measures required more work, and therefore noise, prior to 9:00 am. 


Construction staff were able to get the situation fully under control. Work continues today, July 12, to complete remediation.


The construction management apologies for the unavoidable noise caused by  the urgently necessary work this emergency situation required.

The L Tower Hoist (external elevator pictured in the photo below) is scheduled to be taken down and removed on Saturday, July 19 and Sunday, July 20, 2014.

A road closure permit has been issued by the City of Toronto for all day Saturday July 19 and Sunday July 20. 


Pedestrians will be permitted through the site when it is safe for them to cross through.


Two paid duty Toronto Police Service officers will be on-site. 


The large tower crane will be in use during this work.
