Esplanade Road Closure Update: Open Sept 20. Closed Sept 21 and 24

The Esplanade between Scott Street and Yonge Street was open today, September 19 and will be open tomorrow September 20. It will be closed again on Friday, September 21 and Monday September 24.

The cause of this change as noted in a previous post (here), were the transportation and wide-load delivery challenges for the steel lining that was to be installed, starting on Tuesday, September 18. Initial preparations were done on Tuesday with the mobile crane. However, without the steel lining no further work could be done.

This delay and rescheduling has been caused by factors beyond the control of the construction management team. They apologize again for the inconvenience these changes may cause.

The revised plan will not exceed the original number of permitted road closure days and stays within the permitted hours – 7 am – 6 am.

Transportation & Delivery Issues Impact Backstage today.

The expected Wide-Load steel delivery was CANCELLED today, September 18, due to traffic and transportation issues beyond the control of the construction management team.

This serious transportation and delivery issue may impact the deliveries planned for September 19 – 21st. This may involve canceling some or all of the remaining daytime (7 am – 6 pm) road closure for September 19 – 21 and rescheduling it.

We will update information regarding planned deliveries and the road closure for September 19 – 21 as soon as it becomes available.

Revised L Tower Construction Schedule Sept 17 – 21

Please note that the construction schedule for the L Tower has been revised, due to weather conditions, for the week of September 17 – 21, 2012.

  • These deliveries will be made to the site at 1 The Esplanade, via Scott Street, during the daily — September 18 – 21, 7 am to 6 pm — road closure period.
  • We expect the loads will arrive between 7 am and 10 am depending on traffic and road conditions.
  • We will update this information if there are changes to the delivery schedule or as new information becomes available.

The construction  management team apologizes for any inconvenience. All efforts will be made to ensure that this work is carried out as efficiently as possible.

Daytime Road Closures September 18 – 21

Please note a serious transportation and delivery issue has prevented the steel delivery today September 18. This may impact the road closure. We will update this information as soon as we can.

There will be daytime road closures of The Esplanade between Scott and Yonge streets September 18 – 21. These are required to ensure public safety during the unloading and installation of the stainless steel tunnel lining. Each lining section must be completed within the same day that it is delivered in order to ensure that it is properly installed and sealed.

The construction management team apologizes for the inconvenience. If possible the road closures will be opened prior to 6 pm if the daily work has been completed.

More detailed information will be posted on Monday, September 17.
