Esplanade Road Closure Update: Open Sept 20. Closed Sept 21 and 24

The Esplanade between Scott Street and Yonge Street was open today, September 19 and will be open tomorrow September 20. It will be closed again on Friday, September 21 and Monday September 24.

The cause of this change as noted in a previous post (here), were the transportation and wide-load delivery challenges for the steel lining that was to be installed, starting on Tuesday, September 18. Initial preparations were done on Tuesday with the mobile crane. However, without the steel lining no further work could be done.

This delay and rescheduling has been caused by factors beyond the control of the construction management team. They apologize again for the inconvenience these changes may cause.

The revised plan will not exceed the original number of permitted road closure days and stays within the permitted hours – 7 am – 6 am.

July 23, 2012 The Esplanade Road has been closed between Scott Street and Yonge Street since July 16 to permit the safe construction of and underground tunnel between the L Tower’s parking, located beneath the site of the Backstage condo, and the L Tower itself. Prepatory work to dig out the opening for the tunnel boring machine was conducted last week. Today, equipment to support the tunnel boring machine is being brought into place.
